WQU launches new, two-unit Data Science Module for 2019

Today, registration for WorldQuant University’s new and improved Data Science module opened for 2019. With the opening of registration, we’re proud to announce the new format of our module.

We listened to student feedback and the need for more time to practice and master the concepts and tools that are critical for modern data scientists. Instead of one, eight-week long course, our module now features two discrete eight-week units; Scientific Computing and Python for Data Science, and Machine Learning and Statistical Analysis.

In Unit I, students gain a comprehensive introduction to scientific computing, Python, and the related tools data scientists use to succeed in their work. In Unit II, students develop machine learning and statistical analysis skills through hands-on practice with open-ended investigations of real-world data. Students can expect to work with authentic public data sets from organizations like the NHS, or anonymized data on credit card defaults. This unit has a heavy emphasis on creative use of the tools of data science to solve problems from multiple perspectives. You can review the full curriculum and apply here.

Across both units, students will gain access to a ready-to-use Python environment, allowing them to gain first-hand experience with the tools and techniques data scientists use every day.

Students who successfully complete Unit I earn a certificate and an invitation to enroll in Unit II, and those who successfully complete Unit II earn an overall certificate. All students have the opportunity to complete either unit of the module with honors.

Prospective students need only fill out a short profile on their educational history and technical skillset to apply. The application takes less than 20 minutes to complete.
