The Application Process

Create an account

Once you have created an account, you will be asked to enter your personal information, confirm you are eligible to apply for the program, and upload several supporting documents.

The application process will take approximately three hours to complete. You do not have to complete your application in one sitting. Your information is automatically saved, so you can come back to your application at any time by simply logging into your account.

Review admission requirements and make sure you are aware of deadlines

While every effort is made to accommodate students, submitting an application by the deadline does not guarantee acceptance or a seat in the desired course session.

Admission to the Master of Science in Financial Engineering program is available to all qualified applicants who meet the following requirements:

  • Pass eligibility check
  • Completed online application
  • Official transcripts from highest college/university earned*

    Bachelor’s degree or equivalent four-year degree (required)
    Master’s or Doctorate degree (optional)

  • Passing score on quantitative proficiency test
  • Proof of English proficiency (TOEFL, IELTS, or PTE scores)**

*Official transcripts not in English will need to be evaluated by a member of NACES and submitted to the University for review. Please refer to the policy in the University Catalog.

**The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), the International English Language Testing System (IELTS), or the Pearson Test of English (PTE) is required of applicants whose native language is not English. The only exception is for applicants who have earned a degree at an institution where the language of instruction is English.

WorldQuant University weighs several factors in evaluating applications. Primary consideration is given to the candidates academic records. Other considerations include professional work experience, professional references, and civic leadership and extracurricular activities.

Is our program a good fit for you? The skills listed below are not required, but can be a good indicator:

Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline such as physics, mathematics, computer science, engineering, or economics

Experience in analyzing datasets

Undergraduate-level lab science course (biology, chemistry, physics, etc.)

Experience in at least one programming language such as Python, C++, Java, etc.

Undergraduate-level proficiency in Maple, Matlab, R, or SPSS

Experience with Discrete Optimization

Relevant work experience

WorldQuant University is licensed in the United States and must follow U.S. State Department regulations regarding sanctioned nations. Unfortunately, at this time we are not able to offer our programs to students residing in the following countries: Crimean Peninsula, Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Sudan, and Syria.

In the United States, online educational programs are regulated state by state. As such until the institution is fully accredited, we can offer our programs in the following states only:

New Jersey
North Carolina
Puerto Rico
South Carolina
South Dakota
West Virginia

Gather and upload your required documents

Here is the complete list of all the documents needed to complete your application:

  • Photo ID

    (passport or other form of government ID)

  • Official University Transcripts

    Bachelor’s Degree required

  • TOEFL, IELTS, or PTE scores

    (if applicable)

Once inside the application, you will perform an eligibility check. If you are deemed eligible, you will move on to provide details about your prior studies and proof of your English proficiency. Lastly, you will take a quantitative proficiency test.

It is your responsibility to complete and submit your application on time. Admission decisions can only be made once all the required documents are received.

Before submitting, please double check all parts of your application and make sure you have uploaded all of the required documents. You will not be able to make any changes after submission (unless you need to update your contact information).
