Student Spotlight: Christopher Franklin

Christopher Franklin was a full-stack application developer when he started learning more about data science in the fall of 2020. He was excited about the subject, and specifically liked “the idea of using historical data to make future decisions based on data insights and trends.” After a referral from a friend and current WorldQuant University student, Christopher decided to apply to WQU’s Applied Data Science Lab.

After joining the Lab, Christopher was pleased to discover the comprehensive level of support and resources available to students, which he didn’t see in comparable online offerings. “I have found that many data science programs may offer great content and teaching but do not offer WQU levels of structure and consistent support.” From the instructional videos and graded assignments to support forums and office hours, the Lab structure made Christopher “feel like [he] could and should push through any challenges.”

Christopher completed the Lab amidst his busy life and commitments, including his full-time business analyst role at a Fortune 500 company, growing his LLC, and volunteer work. He plans to use the technical and soft skills he developed during the Lab to expand his expertise as a data-focused analyst. “My background and experience in Sales and Retail Sales Management enables me to lead effectively in this IT field that needs effective communicators. Being able to talk through highly technical topics with stakeholders to gain their buy-in is something I embrace.”
